It is used to protect asynchronous three-phase motors from faults in the electricity distribution network. A typical case of its application is the protection of underwater pumps.

It monitors the voltage of the three-phase network in terms of the loss of one or more phases, the asymmetry of the three phases (adjustable 25-5%), the sequence, and their undervoltage. It works without the neutral connection. The supervisor relay is activated when all three (polar) phases of the network do not deviate from each other more than the adjustable value, and their sequence is correct. In any other case, as well as in case of total loss of a phase (below 300VAC), the relay is deactivated.
